Patricia Voulgaris is an artist from New York who is currently a 2024 MFA candidate at the Yale School of Art. Her work adopts the visual language of the supernatural, creating beautiful yet uncanny monochrome images that seem ‘cursed.’ Through an interplay of shadows, contrasting tones, and the gestures and movement of her models, she creates dramatic scenes that draw the viewer in. Her ongoing project The Hunter explores the physical violence that exists in society and the rage within ourselves. She suggests that rather than something to be suppressed, the dark emotions we all feel are an energy that is vital to our existence.
2024년 예일대학교 미술대학 MFA 과정 수료 예정인 파트리샤 불가리스(Patricia Voulgaris)는 뉴욕 기반 아티스트이다. 불가리스는 초자연적인 비주얼 언어를 빌려 아름답고 기묘하면서도 ‘저주받은’ 듯한 흑백 이미지를 선보이고 있다. 그림자와 대조적인 톤, 모델의 제스처와 움직임을 통해 관람자의 눈을 사로잡는 드라마틱한 장면을 연출한다. 현재 진행 중인 프로젝트 <더 헌터(The Hunter)>는 사회에 존재하는 신체적 폭력과 우리의 마음속에 내재된 분노를 탐색하고 있다. 누구나 느끼는 어두운 감정이 참거나 숨겨야 하는 것이 아닌 우리에게 꼭 필요한 에너지라고 주장한다.
