Victor von Schwarz

From Barcelona, Spain & Taipei, Taiwan

Interviewed by Cinjay Lee

Nice to meet you, Victor. You are based in two disparate cities, Barcelona and Taipei. Where are you planning to spend this winter?

I just rented a cute new studio here in Barcelona! So I guess I’ll stay here for a while.

Coming from Barcelona, how did you happen to live in Taipei as well? What were the motivation and connections? What do you like about Taipei?

I visited Taipei because Taiwan was the first foreign country that bought my first collection after MBFW Madrid. I fell in love with the city, was so much influenced by the rest of Asia as well, by their strong style of their own.

How did you start your label, ‘Victor von Schwarz’? Is that your real name? If not, why did you name so?

My real name is Victor Fernandez, Fernandez is a really regular surname here. You can’t even try to google it because then half of the Spanish people will appear. I chose von Schwarz (which means ‘on black’) because I had a moment when I was really interested in German post-punk music and aesthetics. And in all of my collections, I did have some dark points in the theme.
