Could you tell us how MURRAL has begun its journey?
MURRAL is a womenswear label launched in 2013 by a man & woman designer duo, Yusuke Muramatsu & Ayumi Sekiguchi. Two of us who had been working individually, joined our force to deliver our philosophy. The name MURRAL came from the idea that by wearing MURRAL, you get your own murals in everyday life. Below the concept ‘a dramatic moments in mundane life’, we’d like to sharpen the design with the graphics and laces with a neat and clear point of view.
What was the behind story of the latest collection?
We worked on under the theme ‘ORDINARY’, in trials to portray ordinary things such as the transition from autumn to winter. And the vivid, colorful gradations a sky creates from the evening to the night. The ordinary miracles which are standing right in front of us, naturally or supernaturally. We designed based on this intimate yet precious inspirations. After the pandemic, the ordinariness became very valuable. We never could imagine such world we were to confront while preparing 2020FW collection. No one can define what is ordinary, what is not, it is also a subjective matter. However, if we can coexist with this world embracing our own visions and aesthetic senses, wouldn’t that be the new ordinariness? The ordinariness of me and you.
